UFC 236 in Atlanta at State Farm Arena will feature one women card taking place in the early prelims, as Poliana Botelho moves up in weight to face off against Lauren Mueller in a flyweight bout.
“Princess Tiger” Mueller was the last fighter to step on the scale with 35 minutes left from the allotted time. The UFC gives fighters a two-hour window to weigh in. Mueller went over one pound of the flyweight limit of 125.
Botelho found it easy to make weight, as she recently fought in the strawweight division. The Brazilian pride from Muriae, Minas Gerais had her strawweight debut in 2017 with a win over Pearl Gonzalez and in her previous fight in which she agreed on a catchweight bout to fight Cynthia Calvillo at 118 pounds.
Botelho’s first six fights were in the flyweight division, and the last three were in the strawweight division, while Mueller started her MMA career as a bantamweight. She eventually cut weight and made her flyweight debut in 2018 when she defeated Shana Dobson.
The Brazilian has a reputation for winning fights by stoppage with six of her victories coming from technical knockouts. Although Mueller has a bigger frame, she will need to watch out for Botelho’s vicious punches. It can very well end in the early rounds.
Besides Botelho’s standup, she has a well-established grappling game. If the Brazilian attempts to take it to the ground, Mueller would not be vulnerable as she has one of the best takedown defenses in the division. It wouldn’t be a surprise if this bout only goes for one round.
