At UFC Philadelphia, Marina Rodriguez keeps her impressive record, but takes damage

The undefeated strawweight Marina Rodriguez beat veteran Jessica Aguilar, a fight she accepted seven days prior, although Rodriguez took some punishment as the fight went the distance.

On Wednesday, Rodriguez posted a photo on Instagram of her laying down in a hospital bed with her arm and hand wrapped.

“It was a respected victory at UFC Philadelphia, with one arm coming out and [putting it] back to place, one broken hand and two black eyes Haha! But surgery is done, and everything is in its proper place! Monday I’m back to the gym, soon back to the octagon!! Thanks, everyone for the support!”

Rodriguez will be on a medical suspension for 45 days. Meanwhile, Jessica Aguilar took a brutal beating and has been suspended indefinitely, which will require a doctor’s clearance, stated in the UFC Philadelphia’s medical suspension report by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission.

The Brazilian from Bagé, Rio Grande do Sul, holds an overall record of 11-0-1. She won five fights by knockouts/TKO and one by submission.

Rodriguez got her spotlight at Dana White’s Contender Series 2018: Brazil, Episode 2. She defeated Maria de Oliveira Neta on a technical knockout. A victory over Aguilar marked as her first UFC victory, as her UFC debut in September versus Randa Markos ended in a draw.

A fight against Emily Whitmire (4-2) would be a possibility for Rodriguez’s next fight. Whitmire made her debut in the UFC in 2017, and it would make sense to pair both of them together, as they are in the novice stage of their UFC careers.
